Within a few steps, you will find yourselves in the city centre where you can take the special small tourist train known as the Freccia Rossa which will take you on a tour of discovery around the town. It leaves about every 45 minutes from Piazza Manzoni and is ideal for seeing the city and the lakeside from a different perspective.
You can “park” your children’s strollers comfortably on board the train. But, a holiday with children isn’t a real holiday without a park. The park that we recommend that you visit is located to the south east of the old town. It is called the Ciani park which covers 63,000 square metres and is bordered by the lake. Inside the park there are wonderful trees, shrubs and flowers as well as a play area and the municipal library. Of course, Lugano is also all about nature. During the summer months, it is possible to swim in water that is perfect for children because the shore is on a very gradual slope into the water. The little ones will probably also enjoy a ride on the funicular up Monte Brè or to the summit of San Salvatore. Although it is not in the centre of town, if you are visiting Lugano with children, we would strongly recommend a visit to the Alprose chocolate factory!
